… doch was riecht hier so streng? Es ist der Geruch von Stockfisch (und damit der des Geldes)!

Stockfisch wird meist aus getrocknetem Skrei gemacht (arktischer Kabeljau, der im Winter zum Laichen zu den Lofoten kommt). Archäologische Funde zeigen: Die Wikinger handelten mit der Delikatesse bereits vor über 1000 Jahren.

Noch heute zählt er zu den wichtigsten Exportgütern der Region – Geld stinkt eben doch nicht!

Mit Lorbeerblätter - Moskenes wird die von der Natur geformte "Teufelshöhle" (Djevlegrotten) markiert. Die Künstlerin hat auf jeder Seite des Höhleneingangs eine Reliefwand aufsgestellt, um die Mystik und Besonderheit der Höhle zu unterstreichen. Die Umgestaltung des Ortes zum Kunstwerk besagt etwas über den Drang des Menschen zum Schönen. Hier wurde die Idee des Schönen aus den Mustern und sich wiederholenden Formen der Natur abgeleitet, die nach den Worten der Künstlerin eine "Landschaft in der Landschaft" oder "ein Muster unter den von der Vegetation gebildeten Mustern" darstellen.

Northern lights over Reine in Lofoten

Weniger Touristen und mehr Platz verspricht eine Reise im Frühling oder Herbst – oder im Winter, wenn die Landschaft in magisches Licht getaucht ist und die Nordlichter am Himmel tanzen.

Ab Ende August, vor allem ab September, werden die Nächte allmählich dunkler und das Nordlicht kehrt zurück.

Die Lofoten haben das Gütesiegel „Sustainable Destination“ erhalten. Das heißt zwar nicht, dass das Reiseziel komplett nachhaltig ist. Doch es zeigt, dass die Gemeinde systematisch daran arbeitet, die negativen Auswirkungen des Tourismus zu reduzieren und die positiven Aspekte zu fördern.

Die Lofoten sind bei Campern sehr beliebt – doch es gibt viele Orte, an denen Zelt oder Camper verboten sind. Nutzen Sie Plätze mit passenden Einrichtungen für Camper oder wählen Sie einen offiziellen Campingplatz (in der Hochsaison ist eine Reservierung empfehlenswert).

Die arktische Natur ist extrem sensibel. Bleiben Sie auf markierten Wegen, nutzen Sie öffentliche Toiletten, und hinterlassen Sie keinen Müll. ​

In Norwegen gilt vom 15. April bis zum 15. September ein generelles Verbot für offenes Feuer (auch Bålforbud genannt). Das betrifft Lagerfeuer, offene Feuerstellen, Einweggrills und ähnliche Feuerstellen mit offenen Flammen. So werden Waldbrände verhindert.

Respekt gegenüber den Einheimischen

Die Lofoten sind wunderschön – aber auch die Heimat vieler Menschen. Fotografieren Sie niemanden ohne Erlaubnis und kaufen Sie lokal ein, um die Gemeinschaft zu unterstützen. Einige Straßen sind schmal und haben Ausweichbuchten im Falle von Gegenverkehr – bitte nicht zum Parken nutzen!
