ROHEY TAALAH and the Trondheim Soloists

Critically acclaimed Rohey Taalah meets the Trondheim Soloists for an intense and atmospheric concert experience where old classics are given new life. One of the country's very best soul and jazz vocalists interprets some of the most beautiful songs of all time about how infinitely beautiful and painful love can be - and you can experience it from the front row at Vår Frue kirke on August 3rd! Together with the Trondheim Soloists, Rohey performs Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" as well as a bunch of other classic songs, beautifully arranged by Martin Myhre Olsen. "One of the country's strongest voices, which shows that there can still be a lot of life left in old songs," wrote Dagsavisen when the constellation held a concert during the Oslo Jazz Festival in 2025. ROHEY TAALAH is an award-winning jazz and soul vocalist known from the band Gurls, which won the Spellemannprisen for jazz album of the year in 2018. She has been with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra on several occasions and has also sung with Bigbang and Jarle Bernhoft and warmed up for a-ha in Spektrum. TRONDHEIMSOLISTENE is recognized for representing chamber music at the highest level. Passionate performances, innovation and an inherent musicality are key words, whether they make critically acclaimed recordings, play live from Lofoten to Berlin or form meaningful collaborations with musicians from all disciplines. Today's artistic director, Guro Kleven Hagen, continues the development of TrondheimSolistene as a top professional ensemble with great international recognition. The concerts are characterized by mood, spontaneity and intensity.

    The comedy about the roof

Two pairs of twins. Same name. Same city. What could go wrong? The Rhubarb Theatre invites you to summer theatre at Bakklandet, and the stage is set for a performance where confusion takes over completely. Here, money, jewelry and people go astray, love ends up in the wrong place – and no one is quite sure who really is who. “The Comedy of Errors” is Rhubarb Theatre’s version of one of William Shakespeare’s earliest and most insane comedies, The Comedy of Errors. The play is a classic comedy of errors in which we meet two sets of twins who were separated at birth – and who, unfortunately, bear exactly the same name. When both sets of twins end up in the same town, a chain reaction of misunderstandings is set in motion. Servants mistake their masters, masters mistake their servants, and a wife is convinced that her husband is behaving strangely – unaware that she is talking to the wrong man. Along the way, romantic confusion, financial chaos and pure madness ensue, before everything finally unravels in a surprising revelation. The performance has been translated into the lush and poetic Sparbud dialect by Hans Magnus Ystgaard, who for many years has given Shakespeare new life in Trøndelag. Bring a friend (preferably one you don't confuse with anyone else), and join us for a summer evening full of laughter and pure fun! July 23 – August 2 Rhubarb Park, Bakklandet Get your tickets now - https://rabarbra.hoopla.no/ If you need assistance and/or a companion ticket, please contact [email protected] The artistic team consists of Øyvind Brandtzæg as director, Jenny Hillmo Teig as set and costume designer, Leo Thörn as mask designer and Erik Sand Angelsen and Thomas Myklebust as this year's choreographers. The music is composed by Ragnhild Risnes, who also collaborates with musician Jenny Frøysa. 31.07.2026 - 02.08.2026

    RAW Dance Studio at Olavsfest

Join Trine “Goldielock” and Tomas “Hi-Lo” from RAW Dance Studio for dance play and social dancing during Olavsfest! This is a dance activity for the whole family, where children and adults can move, play and dance together to great music. You do not need to have danced before, know the steps in advance or feel “good enough” to take part. The activity is all about relaxing, letting go and experiencing the joy of dance together with others! Through simple steps, rhythm games and fun dance tasks, participants will get to explore movement, music and, not least, imagination. Sometimes we dance together as a group, and other times we try small tasks where everyone can find their own way of moving. The goal is to create a safe, fun and social dance party where both children and adults can join in. Trine “Goldielock” has extensive experience as a dancer and co-owner of RAW Dance Studio, with a particular background in hip hop and locking. She is passionate about the joy of dance, a sense of achievement and creating spaces where everyone feels seen. Tomas “Hi-Lo” is a dancer, educator and co-owner of RAW Dance Studio. His work is rooted in popping and visual dance styles, and he creates imaginative tasks where rhythm, play and creativity are at the centre. RAW Dance Studio is a dance studio in Trondheim that works to make dance accessible, inclusive and meaningful for children, young people and adults. During Olavsfest, they bring their playful and welcoming approach to dance, inviting the whole family into movement, community and the joy of music. Come as you are, bring your family and join a big dance party during Olavsfest! The event is part of Olavsfest’s free family programme KONGSGÅRDEN, held at Ytre Kongsgård every day from 11:00 to 16:00.
  • KNUT REIERSRUD & GEIR SUNDSTÖL
    Trondheim
    02.08.2026

    KNUT REIERSRUD & GEIR SUNDSTÖL

🎸 Knut Reiersrud and Geir Sundstøl will release the album "Purcell, truth, lies and bad memory" on September 25th. But first they will come to Olavsfest in a unique collaboration between two of Norway's very best guitarists! Knut Reiersrud and Geir Sundstøl have known each other for over 35 years. Yet the two string masters have hardly ever played together. Only on the occasional recording for other artists. Fortunately, there are people in this country who can count to two! Former Sildajazz manager Andreas Meland, the man behind record label Hubro, has dreamed for several years of letting the two meet for four-handed guitar magic. It may have come as a surprise to Meland that the two guitarists have chosen to make a record based on the works of the English Baroque composer Henry Purcell. However, there will be no servile guitar duets, performed with a footstool and a jacket. Here we get bold improvisation and detours to the Wild West, Indian mysticism and Swedish sin. Reiersrud and Sundstøl both have a long history of adapting musical works: Franz Schubert, John Coltrane, LV Beethoven and David Bowie have all passed through the two gentlemen's musical mill. Now it is Henry Purcell's music that is in focus. Why does the world need a "Knut and Geir twist on Purcell" album? Let's answer a little pompously, something they liked in the 17th century: Purcell's music possesses an emotional depth of its own. The works are often grandly arranged for large orchestras. At the same time, it possesses a depth that has created some of the strongest moments in film music. It is this deeply human and warming core of the tonal language that the two want to convey with their guitars. Through Reiersrud and Sundstøl's interpretations, it is as if one senses the roots of the universal quality of British pop music. Combined with the fact that both musicians fell into the African/American music cauldron early on, there is room for unheard of and cosmic string magic on stage. Photo: Marthe Vannebo

    GEORG BULJO - Æfintyr

🔥 Georg Buljo has put electricity in the lavvo and lets ambient electronica sparkle as he joiks into the living fire of tradition together with the Norwegian Erlend Viken and the vocal group Viggja Voices. The Middle Ages meet machines and Sami tradition breathes and grows together with Norwegian sounds in the world of electronics. It is both mysterious and melancholic when human voices meet traditional instruments and Nordic folk musical expressions play with meditative and modern sound experiments. "Æfintyr" is a vibrant soundscape of drones, folk tunes and pulsating rhythms, and the music balances between ritual heaviness and precise textures. Buljo has created a work inspired by adventure and the human longing for the unknown. Join us on a musical adventure as Georg Buljo explores the musical landscape between the Sami and the Norse in ÆFINTYR. - In Norse times, people went on adventures – as a journeyman's test, but also as a manifestation of the urge to travel. It was about going out and encountering the unknown, about not quite knowing where you were going. That mindset is very similar to the one I have when I make music myself, explains Georg Buljo. The Sami musician and composer has also previously left his mark on Olavsfest; in 2022 he wrote the commissioned work "Kalvskinnsangen" and performed it in Nidaros Cathedral. He describes ÆFINTYR as a concert where the music goes on a journey of discovery somewhere between Sami and Norwegian folk music. Thematically, the concert draws inspiration from legends, myths and folk traditions from the mountains of Sør-Trøndelag. With him on stage in Vår Frue Church, he has Erlend Viken on fiddle and strings, the vocal group Viggja Voices and his own vocal group with children. The concert will contain lyrics in both Norwegian and Sami, yet the text universe is limited in many ways. - There is not much text in the joik tradition – you give small hints through keywords or core words. References that can be communicated very barely, but also elaborated, says Buljo, who promises that the concert will also use modern technology. Samples, noise and synths. Not hard beats, but meditative and ambient soundscapes. - In that sense, a modern soundscape can be an extension of the joik atmosphere. In joik, each number becomes a space, a presence you can latch onto and choose to be in and encapsulated in. The meditative state is important. The ÆFINTYR music will be released on record the same day as the concert. Welcome!

    Trondheim
    03.08.2026 - 07.08.2026

Artist of the week: lh lokander

Experience concerts with LH Lokander in the Hall of Fame exhibition twice daily during the period August 3rd - 8th and get closer to one of the new voices in Norwegian popular music! Concert time: 11:30 13:30 Duration approximately 20 minutes. lh lokander explores the meeting between folk tradition and digital soundscapes. Based on a songwriting practice rooted in Norwegian folk song, young songwriter Lars Hagane Lokander works to challenge the notion of simplicity and acoustics as the genre's natural form. Inspired by how figures like Ole Paus have expanded the expression of folk songs through new forms of collaboration and musical frameworks, he seeks to continue a text-based practice into a more unpredictable soundscape. Where folk songs are traditionally carried by voice and guitar, the project lh lokander allows the material to pass through digital processes such as compression, noise, signal breakdown and displacements. What was previously stable is set in motion. The use of live electronics allows both structure and expression to change in the moment. The project stems from a desire to investigate how a song can exist in a time characterized by technology and fragmented experiences. The music moves quietly where the intimate and human meets noise, improvisation and live processing – an expression that both challenges the safety of the song format and looks forward. The concert is included in the admission ticket to Rockheim. Buy the Rockheim Card and catch all concerts with Ukas artist this summer: https://rockheim.no/rockheimkortet ---------------------------------------------------- About the Artist of the Week at Rockheim: Every week this summer, six young artists take the stage in Rockheim's Hall of Fame exhibition with their own music and personal expressions. Extra concert ÅGE ALEKSANDERSEN - "Snow Harp" in Nidaros Cathedral

The first concert sold out in no time - that's why we are now organizing an extra concert so that as many people as possible can experience this unique project. Åge Aleksandersen plays one of his most special albums, "Snöharpan", with a large ensemble in Nidaros Cathedral! - "Snöharpan" is the story of both Åge and Dan Andersson. But most of all it is a tribute to my grandfather, Sander Aleksandersen, says Åge Aleksandersen. And then of course it is with a unique repertoire, namely a re-hearing of a very special chapter in Åge's career: In 2026, it will be the 20th anniversary of the album "Snöharpan", which consisted entirely of Åge's interpretations and settings of poems written by the Swedish poet Dan Andersson. - I remember my grandfather Sander reading poetry to me while he was making knives. He was Swedish-speaking, so I thought it was his own words and his own poems. It wasn't until I turned 18, and heard "Omkring tiggarn från Loussa" on the radio, that I realized it was Dan Andersson poetry he was reading to me. That was the start of a relationship with Dan Andersson's poetry that has been deep and close ever since. Dan Andersson was born in Dalarna in 1888, in poor circumstances in an area dominated by forestry and coal burning. He made his debut with the short story collection "Kolarhistorier" in 1914 and also wrote novels. However, he is best known for his poetry collections "Kolvaktarens visor" (1915) and "Svarta Ballader" (1917), which included wilderness poetry, religious reflections and metaphysical questions. Rumor has it that he also spent some time in Trondheim, where he unsuccessfully applied for a job at Adresseavisen. Dan Andersson died tragically in 1920, at the age of just 32. The cause was cyanide poisoning in a hotel room that had not been aired out after pest control. He is considered a national treasure in Sweden. His poems have been interpreted and set to music by names such as Thåström, the Hootenanny Singers and Harry Brandelius. Åge says that he has just as intense a relationship with Dan Andersson as he does with Bob Dylan. - Both of them move me a lot, for different reasons. At the same time, I don't have a great need to analyze it so thoroughly, I prefer to just feel it. I recognize myself in the uncertainty. In the fact that he is so full of both doubt and faith. For the concert, Åge has put together a completely new ensemble, and Knut Anders Vestad will contribute new arrangements to many of the songs. CONTRIBUTORS: Åge Aleksandersen (vocals, guitar) Andreas Aase (musical director, guitar) Ernst-Wiggo Sandbakk (percussion) Vegard Bjerkan (keyboards) Roar Øien (steel guitar) Quintet from the Trondheim Soloists Line-Sofie Aleksandersen (vocals) Christin Hoff (vocals) Knut Anders Vestad (arrangements, keyboards)

MASS OF GRAFFITI - by B. Morten Christophersen w/TSO and choir

The closing concert for Olavsfest 2026 will be a premiere of the powerful work MASS OF GRAFFITI by B. Morten Christophersen! Declarations of love. Erotic messages. Prayers. Names carved into stone. In the Middle Ages, people wrote much of the same things on church walls that we write on screens today. Now composer B. Morten Christophersen has turned these voices into a large work for orchestra, choir and organ that will be premiered in Nidaros Cathedral. CONTRIBUTORS: Conductor: Ingar Bergby Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera Trondheim Vocal Ensemble conducted by Frank Havrøy Oslo Cathedral Choir conducted by Oddgeir Kjetilstad Nidaros Cathedral Choir conducted by Karen Haugom Olsen Nidaros Cathedral Girls' Choir, conducted by Johanne Bjørkhaug Organist: Petra Bjørkhaug – I started with Nidaros Cathedral, St. Sophia Cathedral in Kiev and Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. In addition, there are texts from Norwegian stave churches, English village churches and several others, says composer B. Morten Cristophersen. The composer, who earlier this year won the Spellemann Prize as "composer of the year", has spent the last two years working on the commissioned work "Mass of Graffiti", which will be premiered during St. Olav's Festival on August 3 by a total of 150 musicians, divided between the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Vocal Ensemble, Nidaros Cathedral Girls' Choir, Nidaros Cathedral Choir, Oslo Cathedral Choir and organist Petra Bjørkhaug. He has collected and selected authentic graffiti and epitaphs from twenty medieval churches around Europe and put them together to form the work's libretto. But what did people in the Middle Ages carve into stone and wood in churches? According to Christophersen, a lot of it is in prayers and names, people liked to write their signatures back then too. – At the same time, there is a lot of other spice. There is both love, eroticism and curses. Many puns and riddles. But also many cries for help, we must be aware that society at that time was much harder to live in than in the one we have now. The result is many different moods: play, dance, seriousness, funerals, declarations of love and teasing. – In a way, I have tried to include all aspects of life in the work and represent it musically, says Cristophersen, who explains that all the inscriptions are sung by the many choirs, in different languages. He describes the music as distinctly melodic, with both grand highlights and quiet, delicate parts. Simple and complex at the same time. – For me as a composer, it is incredibly wonderful and exciting to be allowed to do such a large work as this, with so many talented musicians in Nidaros Cathedral itself. I really have to pinch myself. This work is something I have lived for and with for a couple of years, so it is fantastic that it is now coming to life.

We all have something going on. Sometimes it's big, sometimes it's small. Sometimes it's just heavy enough to feel lonely. And it's easy to think that you're the only one. That everyone else has it all figured out. They don't have that. "All We Stand For" is an innovative concert with music that really hits home. The music has been specially arranged for the occasion, with music by Susanne Sundfør, Marthe Wang, Laleh, modern choral music, and Trond Wiger's own lyrics written close to his own life. This is a concert that takes seriously something that concerns us all. Nidaros Cathedral's girls' choir meets rapper Trond Wiger, jazz singer Kirsti Huke and double bassist Erlend Smalås together with the Trondheim Soloists and organist Petra Bjørkhaug. Here are delicate and beautiful parts. Here is rap with organ. Here is resistance and nerve. The concert ends with "O stay with me", a hymn that most people know, but perhaps have never heard like this. 💕 This concert is a hug we would like to give. We hope it reaches its destination.
