Walbeobachtung in Norwegen
Diese mächtigen Kreaturen bewohnen die norwegische Küste und faszinieren Touristen wie Einheimische. Bis zu 20 Meter lange Pottwale zeigen sich das ganze Jahr über an der Küste der Vesterålen in Norwegen.
Wenn das Walbeobachtungsboot vom Kai in Andenes in See sticht, atmen Sie gleich die frische Meeresluft. Niemand weiß, was der Tag bringen wird. Gegen Mitte des Winters ziehen wandernde Heringsschwärme vor der Küste Nordnorwegens Buckelwale, Orcas und Finnwale an. Für die Wale bedeuten die riesigen Mengen dieser kleinen Fische ein wahres Festmahl. In den vergangenen Jahren fand dieses Naturschauspiel vor allem in der Region rund um den Lyngenfjord, Tromsø und Alta statt. Zuletzt wurden Wale auch in Kvænangen gesichtet – hier haben Sie ausgezeichnete Chancen auf Orcas, Finnwale und Buckelwale. Mehrere Anbieter organisieren in der Region Walbeobachtungstouren, darunter Brim Explorer, dessen leise Hybrid-Elektroschiffe die Wale und die Natur so wenig wie möglich stören.
Die Heringe könnten im nächsten Jahr jedoch weiterziehen und die hungrigen Wale würden ihnen folgen – so ist eben die Natur.

Das weltbeste Reiseziel für Walbeobachtungen?
Andenes auf den Vesterålen hat einen geografischen Vorteil, der die Wale das ganze Jahr über in die Gegend lockt. Die großen Pottwale lieben die Bleikdjupet (Bleikschlucht) – ein besonders nährstoffreiches Gebiet nordwestlich von Andenes. Laut Sara liegt hier der einzige Ort in ganz Skandinavien, wo Sie in so kurzer Zeit so tiefe Meere erreichen und hohe Chancen auf Walbeobachtungen haben.
Die Wintersaison dauert normalerweise von Mitte Januar bis April, die Sommersaison von Anfang Mai bis Anfang November.
Wenn Sie mit Whalesafari Andenes auf Walbeobachtung gehen, können Sie auch eine faszinierende Tour durch das Walmuseum im Walzentrum machen. Manche Touren beginnen in Stø, an der Spitze von Langøya auf den Vesterålen. Von hier dauert die Fahrt zu den Walen zwar etwas länger, doch als Bonus sehen Sie vielleicht einige Robben. Diese entspannen sich oft auf dem felsigen Gelände am Ufer, da es in der Nähe des Fischerdorfs eine Robbenkolonie gibt.

Diese Richtlinien gelten für alle Schiffe auf See – für Privatpersonen und Touristen, kommerzielle Reiseveranstalter und für alle anderen.
Halten Sie ausreichend Abstand, um die Wale nicht zu stören oder zu stressen. Versuchen Sie keinesfalls, die Wale anzulocken (etwa durch Futter, Geräusche oder Blicklichter) oder sie zu berühren.

Die Hauptattraktion – Pottwale
Die Crew hat in der Ferne ein leises Klicken der Wale gehört …
Wenn Sie den Kapitän während der Fahrt mit Kopfhörern sitzen sehen, liegt das daran, dass er ein Hydrophon verwendet. Dieses Unterwassergerät erkennt Meeresgeräusche aus allen Richtungen und nimmt diese auf, um nach Pottwalen zu lauschen. Diese gelten als die lautesten Tiere der Welt, ihre Klickgeräusche sind sogar drei bis vier Seemeilen entfernt noch zu hören.
Die Meistertaucher können Tiefen von bis zu 2000 Metern erreichen! Dabei können die Wale eineinhalb Stunden unter der Oberfläche bleiben. An der Oberfläche bleiben Sie durchschnittlich nur acht Minuten lang. Man erkennt die Pottwale zudem an ihrem Blas (die durch das Blasloch ausgestoßene Atemluft), das in einem Winkel von 45 Grad nach links in den Himmel schießt.
Kurz vor dem Ende der Show sehen Sie die Schwanzflosse, die direkt aus dem Meer steht – das ist der Moment für Fotos, also schnell! Dann verschwindet der Wal wieder in der Tiefe.
Selbst wenn die Wale gerade abgetaucht sind, gibt es noch viele andere erstaunliche Wildtiere.
7 Top-Tipps zur Walbeobachtung
• Bringen Sie warme Kleidung mit: Ziehen Sie sich in Schichten an (Zwiebelprinzip) und nehmen Sie wasserdichte Ausrüstung mit.
• Halten Sie Ihre Kamera bereit und verwenden Sie ein Zoomobjektiv für die besten Bilder!
• Lassen Sie die Kamera aber auch mal stecken und genießen Sie einfach nur die spektakuläre Aussicht in Nordnorwegen.
• Sprechen Sie mit den Crewmitgliedern! Diese teilen gerne ihr Wissen über verschiedene Walarten und sagen Ihnen, worauf Sie achten sollen.
• Geduld ist gefragt! Der Kapitän und die Crew können helfen und schätzen, wo die Wale demnächst auftauchen werden.
• Nehmen Sie ein bis zwei Stunden vorher ein Medikament gegen Seekrankheit ein, wenn Sie Ihren Magen noch nicht auf hoher See kennengelernt haben.
• Bringen Sie ein paar Snacks mit. Salzige Snacks wie Cracker und Chips sind am besten, da sie gegen Übelkeit helfen.
