Length: Approx. 12 km

Time spent: 3-4 hours

Start Location: Imlan

The highest peak in Nesbyen. From here you see far in every direction. In 2017, it was highlighted by the national newspaper Dagsavisen as one of ten “Easy-going gold peaks in southern Norway”.

Hallingnatten can be reached from Nystølen or Bøgaset (very popular winter time), but this is a walk of just over a mile each way. In the summer we recommend to visit Imlan. This is a beautiful and idyllic quiet area, maybe worth the trip in itself! Park in the lower parking lot (look for signs towards Hallingnatten). From here the path is clear and signposted in several places. Cross the river just below the parking lot and follow the clear path SV-over. After Nordre Rantetjern there is a uphill, and at the top of this hill the path divides. Keep left here (the path to the right leads across the back that we recommend walking on the return trip).

Mostly smooth climb, but some flat areas. Great views most of the trip, especially nice from Nordre Rantetjern to Øyvatn and of course arriving at the finish.

The return journey can be taken the same way, but it is also nice to follow the ridge that rises west of Imlan. On the return road, turn left into the previously mentioned junction before the ground down towards Nordre Rantetjern. After a few hundred meters across the ridge you pass a fantastic stone facility with a campfire and seating. A perfect place for a little breather.

The walk continues over the back with great views all the way. At the end of the ridge follow the path steeply downhill until you reach the forest and then the dirt road leading back to the car.
