Imagine eating trout roasted on the fire in sour cream from a mountain farm nearby. Spend the night in a tent by a quiet lake or a river. What could be better than waking up to panoramic view towards the beautiful mountains in Ål? About 50 fishing waters in Ål in Hallingdal gives you the opportunity to eat self-fished trout.

There are many rivers and fishing waters in both the forest and the mountains in Ål. Most waters are easily accessible and the journey to them is a superb nature outing itself. We can particularly recommend the Bergsjøarea, Iungsdalen and Fødalen if you want to head into the mountains.

The tarn Hesttjørn in Ridalen at Torpo is accessible for wheelchair users. It is also a nice place for families with small children, with a small wharf and fireplace.

Fishing License

There are sale of fishing license in some of the fishing areas as they have self-service boxes. You will find these boxes on your way into the mountain areas or close to the actual water. In the Bergsjøarea there are one common fishing license for among 20 waters and tarn. You can also buy fishing license online from www.inatur.no for some of the areas.

Fishing season

The start of the fishing season variate from zone to zone, and the same goes for the end of the fishing season. Last date of fishing is 01.09, 15.09 or 19.09. Get the specified information on the fishing license and at www.inatur.no

Types of Fish

All fishing zones have trout. At Veståsen in zone 3 and zone 32 at Nordre Øknevann you can get gwyniad. In zone 33 at Øvre Vatsfjorden, zone 15 at Rødungen North and zone 16 at Rødungen South there is char as well as trout.

Ice Fishing

Vatsfjorden and Rødungen North in the Bergsjøarea is among South-Norway’s best ice fishing waters. The ice is usual safe in January, but talk to the locals before you try. You can buy fishing license from a self-service box near by the fishing area.
