Teater Manu was founded in 1999 as the test project The Norwegian Sign Language Theatre. In 2004 the theatre opened its own theatre, and changed to its current name.
Teater Manu was created with three main objectives: to further educate deaf actors at a high professional level, to build a broad repertoire, and to tour the country to perform theatre for the deaf where they live.
