Skorve

Summit trip to a plane wreck Skorve is one of the highest mountains in Seljord, with two peaks: Mount Gøysen (1,370 m) and Mount Nordnibba (1,365 m). During WWII two planes crashed into the mountain. These tragic events took place in autumn 1944. One was an Allied aircraft on a mission to drop arms to the Norwegian home front. Only a month later another plane crashed into the mountain, this time in Hestnutan a few kilometres to the north west. The aircraft was a German passenger plane. Remains of the wrecks still lie there as a reminder of the battles that took place in Telemark. A great and challenging day trip with formidable views of the Telemark mountains. You will quickly reach the treeline, so remember to pack some extra warm clothes and a windproof coat. Remember that the weather can change quickly in the mountains! The start of the path is steep, taking you through dense forest before the landscape opens up and gives you great views over Kivledalen. There are signs along the way indicating the location of the Liberator on Mount Gøysen. The highest point of the trip is the beacon on Mount Gøysen at 1,370 m above sea level. From there you can enjoy views across almost all of Telemark. Starting point The footpath starts in the Kivledalen valley, right by the car park in Haugan. Once you have reached the summit you can choose whether to take the same route back (10.2 km in total) or continue to the second highest peak, Mount Nordnibba (1,365 m). If you choose the round trip (14 km), take the footpath down from Mount Nordnibba through the Finndalen valley to Skriustøl. From Skriustøl follow the dirt road back to the car park in Haugan Driving directions Start at the tourist information centre in Seljord. Drive 500 metres west.Turn right up Gullnesvegen. You will drive through a residential estate with many side-roads off to the right and left, but keep on the main road. 10 minutes by car on the dirt road through the Kivledalen valley to the car park in Haugan.
