An experience of the Viking Age for the whole family!
Sagastad Viking Center's VR offer captures children of all ages, and you get to stand at the steering oar of Norway's largest known Viking ship, 30 meters long. Meet the Viking king Audbjørn, and learn about his life and death through the interactive exhibition. Discover mysterious rituals and mythology from the Norse beliefs, and see how the ship was resurrected from the ashes in the burial mound. An authentic experience that is rooted in research through collaboration with the University of Bergen.
Welcome to the Viking Age!
Practical information
In the souvenir shop you get products with the theme Viking and Sagastad, as well as handmade local products, exquisite jewelry, interesting books, tasty gifts and the typical souvenirs. The youngest loves to get a helmet and sword as travel souvenirs. The adults are inspired to buy a good book about the period or the Viking game Hnefatafl.
Sagastad has free parking, and electric car charging stations are merely a 3-minute walk from the center. There is toilets including HC toilet inside the center, and a changing table is available. Boarding the ship is not wheelchair accessible. The rest of the exhibition is available to everyone.
The Viking destination
Sagastad is located by the fjord in the village of Nordfjordeid. Combine the visit with shopping in the picturesque Eidsgata or while charging your electric car. Ride the Viking horse at the Norwegian Fjord Horse Center, take the trip to the golf course or you can have lunch in Eidsgata or by the fjord. How about a fjord bath in the Saga park or climbing in the boulder hall at Hamna? Stay another day with accommodation and spa experience at Nordfjord hotel. Nordfjordeid is perfect as a stopover or starting point for trips between the sea and high mountain peaks in Nordfjord. Located on the halfway between the coast with the surfing paradise in Hoddevika and the magnificent Vestkapp plateau, and at the other end high mountains with views of turquoise lakes and glaciers in Loen and Olden.
