Rebbenes
Private three days Arctic Camp with winter kayaking - all inclusive
This tour is conducted by Elements Arctic Camp. This is a private, all-inclusive, and personalized trip. Our eco-camp in the ocean gap is the place for you who want to experience a unique stay, tranquility and a spectacular arctic coastal nature by kayaking.
Get closer to nature with Elements Arctic Camp. Here you will get the "back to nature" feeling, getting nature close to body and mind. Our secluded camp is located on the beautiful island of Rebbenesøya, only a 2-hour scenic trip from Tromsø. This is a paradise for kayaking and hiking, and if there are snow, you will also be able to do snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.
Our trips are ideal for families, couples and small groups who wish to experience something special and totally different from anything else. Your guide and host Lise is passionate, energetic, personal and adjust the trips to your experience, your wishes, and the weather. You don´t need any experience in kayaking.
You will stay in a cosy and comfortable yurt and enjoy local food. The road- and ferry trip to the camp is an adventure itself. You will paddle in crystal clear water along islands, around islets and sheaves with spectacular sceneries. It’s quite common to see white-tailed eagles, otters, and seals while out kayaking. You will get close to and learn about Arctic wildlife and coastal life and history. The camp is located nearby Nordkvaløya-Rebbenesøya Protected Landscape Area representative of the coastal culture in Troms, and several nature reserves. As well as the wonderful biological diversity, the area has a rich cultural heritage dating as far back as the Stone Age. There are significant sea-bird colonies (summertime) as well as other fauna, and Quaternary geology deposits.
The camp is without road access and electricity, and we fetch water from a small stream nearby. We utilize solar energy and wind power, reuse and recycling are central to us. This is the place to experience, calmness, silence, a lot of weather and the charms of each season with its different color schemes and peculiarities. With no light pollution this is an amazing place for star gazing and experiencing the magical Northern Lights.
Program
We will pick you up in the center of Tromsø or nearby, by appointment at 13:00. The journey to the camp is an adventure in itself, with a scenic 90-minute drive and a 15-minute ferry ride to the island of Rebbenesøya. Then we have a 15-minute walk or snowshoe ride to camp on a slightly hilly trail. After lodging and heating the yurt, we make and eat a meal. We make a plan for the days according to the weather conditions, your paddling experience and wishes. Basically, we aim to have 2 kayaking trips the first 2 days, a trip in the dark and a trip in the Arctic daylight. Day 3 we plan a mountain trip or sightseeing on the island before departure at 15:00. We will then be in Tromsø city at 18:00. The contrasts and colors are widely different and change both throughout the day and throughout the winter season. Paddling in the Arctic winter light and in the dark is a special experience and if we are lucky we get to experience the magical northern lights. During the paddle trips there are great opportunities to see some sea eagles, otters, seals and seabirds. In addition to kayaking and as an alternative to kayaking or at bad weather, it is possible to go hiking in the area. We can also take a drive on the island combined with a mountain hike and visit some of the beautiful beaches. The island offers many great hiking opportunities. If there is snow, it is also possible with snowshoeing or skiing in a fantastic terrain right from your doorstep. We have equipment for that too.
The food is an important part of the trip and we use good ingredients that are as far as possible local. The guide and the guests make food and eat together, unless there are other wishes. Early in the winter season and at the end of the winter season when the days are longer and the temperature higher we will also make bonfire and barbequing, either during the kayaking or at the camp. If possible, we also harvest mussels that we prepare on the fire, a real delicacy.
Our yurts (a luxurious form of nomadic tent) are comfortable and cozy and become good and warm after a few hours of warming up. Here you will be able to enjoy yourself in front of the wood stove with your loved ones. Look forward to some good nights sleep in comfortable beds with high quality pillows and duvets.
If you wish, it might be possible to order a Samic experience, as we cooperate with Sami Johnny who lives on the island, a very nice experience.
Look forward to something exceptional!
Get in touch directly if you are a family or more than 4 people.
We also conduct two days private trips, however, we can highly recommend this three-day trip as the experience will be even greater as you get more time for kayaking and other activities, more time to experience the area and more cozy time with your loved ones. It also gives us more room and choices in relation to the weather. From 2 January, this three day trip is replaced by our three day trip also including snowshoeing and skiing in addition to kayaking, since we then usually have more stable snow conditions at that time.
We are happy to help you choose the best time for you to visit us.
