Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum is a stronghold for art in Northern Norway, with international ambitions and perspectives.

The museum focuses on art connected to the region of Northern Norway, in addition to main trends in Norwegian visual and applied art from the early 19th century until today. The mission of the museum is to stimulate appreciation for and advance knowledge of visual and applied art.

Exhibitions this summer:

I Craft, I Travel Light is a group exhibition looking at arts and crafts, renewal and tradition, displaying works from 15 Norwegian and Russian artists. On view to the 8th of October.

More than 60 artists from Sápmi are represented in the exhibition There is No, which presents a selection from our collection of over 1300 works. The artists represent a wide range, from John Savio, Iver Jåks, Synnøve Persen, Britta Marakatt-Labba to Joar Nango og Hanne Grieg Hermansen. On view to the 27th of August.

Opening hours 20th of June-20th of August: 10-16 all days. Free entrance.

Kunsthall Svalbard

Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum opened Kunsthall Svalbard in Longyearbyen in 2015 as a dedicated exhibition and project space for international contemporary art

The exhibition Digital Balke/Divine North

In 2014 Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum presented an exhibition of paintings by the romantic artist Peder Balke. As an extension of this exhibition we created a digital video work focusing on his landscape paintings from Northern Norway. Accompanying the images is a sound piece composed by the electronica musician Gaute Barlindhaug. On view to 24th of September.
