Hurtigruten - "Die schönste Seereise der Welt"
The Boatmuseum has the worlds largest collection of Nordland boats. In the museum you also find a nice cafe serving local delights and a shop selling local handicrafts, souvenirs and books.
Out on the Fjord bottom, where the summer sun is generous, you find the Boatmuseum with its unique collection of Nordland boats.
The Nordland boat has been the backbone of the northnorwegian fisheries for centuries. The stories of bravery, wedlth, struggle and death are many. The life on the coast was hard and demanding.
Around 1954 the farsighted fisherman Olaus Eillivsøn Thraning had saved numerous boats from the family in a boathouse. The collection grew and he began to show it at the tourist hotel in Gratangen. In 1982 the collection was taken over by the Gratangen Municipality and established as a public museum.
With a portion of boldness and entusiasm, the doors to the new museum could open in 1989.
A few years later the Boatmuseum became a part of the Foundation Nordnorsk Fartøyvernsenter og Båtmuseum.
The museum is placed at the bottom of the fjord and the Fartøyvernsenter is further out in the fjord.
