MS Henrik Ibsen

Book

Historical journey with MS Henrik Ibsen on the Telemark Canal.

The M/S Henrik Ibsen is a historical 100 feet long passenger boat from 1907 sailing the Telemark Canal during the summer season. Our veteran ship must be considered an attraction as well as a means of transportation on the Telemark Canal. The Telemark Canal, lower part opened 1861, upper part to Dalen opened 1982, the Dalen Hotel opened 1894 and the M/S Henrik Ibsen® of 1907 all represent unique cultural and historical attractions, carefully upgraded to meet modern demands and expectations. Together they form a magnificent historical package of slow travelling. Travelling the Telemark Canal you will experience a cultural and historical area that in most ways has retained its feel of the 20th century. You will find locks with beautiful natural stone walls, ancient cast iron constructions for operating the lock gates, old living quarters for the lock keepers, watch rooms, magnificent parks and old docks. In the upper part of the canal system you sail through fantastic "western fjords" in spectacular nature. If you look towards Dalen in clear weather, you may see the start of "Hardangervidda", the snow covered mountain plateau of central southern Norway. Treat yourself to an unforgettable journey on the Telemark Canal aboard one of the historical canal boats M/S Victoria, M/S Henrik Ibsen® and M/S Telemarken. You may choose between a wide selection of day trips and canal packages including overnight stays. We would like to welcome you to a nostalgic and comfortable summer experience.
