UTSIRA

Lighthouse holiday on Utsira

Book

Fancy a holiday out of the ordinary? Where the big sea comes alive, and you feel the forces of nature? You can with a lighthouse holiday on Utsira.

Do you fancy a holiday that’s a bit out of the ordinary? Amidst the open ocean where you can feel the forces of nature? A stay at Utsira lighthouse lets you experience historical surroundings, the fabulous illumination of the lighthouse during the evening and night, and incredible sunrises and sunsets.

There are three different lighthouse keeper dwellings on the grounds, with either 2, 3 or 5 bedrooms, since those who worked at the lighthouse lived with their families. Utsira lighthouse station stopped being manned in 2004, but the lighthouse still operates with the original lighthouse lens.

You can also stay at the pink cabin Nyperosa, which is also situated on the lighthouse grounds. Nyperosa is part of an art installation by Solveig Egeland. Just next to Nyperosa is the small cabin Havsula, which is blue and is open to all. The art installation also includes the small green Håbet, situated at the entrance to Nordevågen bay.

You can explore Utsira on foot, and it’s also possible to rent canoes, bikes and fishing equipment. There are two walking trails from the lighthouse grounds – the Viking trail, which is about 5 kilometres long, and the old lighthouse road, which is about 1 kilometre long. Utsira bird observatory and Ringmerkeskogen woods are also close to the lighthouse grounds.

A simple lighthouse café is open daily during the summer and you can see art exhibitions when the café is open. Guided tours of the lighthouse can be arranged throughout the year. There are several places to eat on the island and it's also home to world-class street art.

Utsira Overnatting welcomes you to a lighthouse holiday on Utsira!
