Kongsvinger Fortress
Here you can find the Museum of the Fortress showing the Norwegian defence history all the way from the Vikings to today. In 2002 the exhibition “The Good Helpers”, telling the story about the border guides during WWII, was opened by HM crown prince Haakon. During the last war there was an extensive border guide activity along the border towards Sweden. The exhibition also shows how the war affected local communities in the region. There is also a short video about the history of the fortress. Norways only Prison Museum is also situated by the fortress.
You also find a photographic exhibition about the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905.
The museum is open 11 – 16 from 1st of May – 31th of August.
