Flora

Kinn DNT cabin

Would you like to experience the island of Kinn, located west of Florø, the westernsmost town in Norway? DNT, the Norwegian Trekking Association, offers accommodation at the old school house on the island.  The legendary Church on the island is built in the Roman building style, and has been in use since the 12th Century. It was later extended and restored. Today it reassembles as near as possible its original style. The Church is the oldest in the region of Sunnfjord. The area around Kinn was the central herring area in Norway for the most part of the 19th Century. At the height, there lived approximately 15,000 people on Kinn and the surrounding islands in the herring season. Today there are only 3 inhabitants on Kinn. There is beautiful hiking terrain on the island. There is a marked trail around the island, and you can also hike to top of the Kiinn Mountain and Kinnaklova (the Kinn cleft), which is a famous sailing mark on the coast. PRACTICAL INFORMATION Accommodation cannot be booked in advance, as this is a no-service cabin. There is a shared living room, kitchen and bathroom with WC and shower. The kitchen is fully equipped. We recommend boiling the tap water before using it.  Remember to bring bedding and towels. There are 9 beds in the cabin. The weather can change quickly, so remember to bring wind- and waterproof clothing and footwear. GETTING THERE There are local boats departing from Florø to Kinn several times a day. It is about a 1 km walk from the dock on the island to the cabin. For more information on timetables and how to get there, please contact Visit FjordKysten at mail@fjordkysten.no
