Hovlandsnuten in Saudasjøen, Ryfylke. A new trail, with stone steps built by Nepalese sherpas ascends up to Hovlandsnuten. The hike as a whole, from fjord-side to summit, is referred to as the Saga Trail.
With two starting points, Hovlandsnuten is an easily accessible hike. The fairytale forest, the Sherpa stairs and the panoramic view from the top provide a great experience!
Season: May - November
Allow 4 hours for this 7,1-km round-trip hike.
The starting point is at Risvoll school in Saudasjøen. The path passes the idyllic Fosstveit dam (NB! new path) and then follows the road about 100m before you turn left onto a newly prepared path. Walk further up towards Brekkestølsbråtet, 300m. From the cabin field on Brekkestølsbråtet, it carries into the valley a slightly flatter section of gravel road, before the climb really picks up as you approach Hovlandsstølen. From here and up is the newly upgraded path and the fantastic stone stairs that Sherpas from Nepal built in the summer of 2014.
