Hjelmeland municipality is located in Ryfyke, in Rogaland. The administrative centre is found in Hjelmelandvågen and the municipality includes other villages like Fister, Årdal and Jøsenfjorden.
Hjelmeland is known for its fruit and fish production, together with the production of traditional chairs, called Jærstol in Norwegian.
The world’s largest halibut plant is located in the fjord in front of Tytlandsvik. Sand from Årdal has been used to build the bridge connection across Øresund (bridge between Sweden and Denmark). Ulla-Førre hydropower plant is located to the east of the municipality, and it is considered one of the largest in Europe.
