Hareidlandet is an island on Sunnmøre that consists of the municipalities of Ulstein and Hareid. It is the largest island on Sunnmøre. The island has a bridge connection with Dimna and Eika in Ulstein and with Gurskøya in Herøy / Sande over the Dragsund bridge. In the south, the island is connected to the mainland via a bridge to Eika and a tunnel to Ørsta / Volda. The Eiksund tunnel runs 287 meters below sea level and is the world's second deepest underwater road tunnel. From Hareid there is a fast boat connection to Valderøya in Giske and to Ålesund. From Hareid there is also a ferry connection to Sulesund in Sula.
Hareidlandet has a lot to offer, including many and varied hiking experiences in the mountains. Two popular tours are:
- Melshornet (668 masl), nice summit hike, partly in forest but mostly in open mountain terrain. Great views of the archipelago, Storfjorden and the Sunnmørsalpene. Go up from Hareid or Hjørungavåg.
- Skafjellet (573 masl), easy to combine with other hiking trails in the area in beautiful and rich hiking terrain. Possibly walk all over the mountain and down to Flø or Ulsteinvik, return to Hareid by public transport.
- Holstadhornet (531 masl), nice hike with a good view of Hareid and Hareidsdalen on one side and Brandalsfjella to the north. A nice route to combine is to walk around Nonsberget and Brandalsegga on the way down.
