Hurtigruten - "Die schönste Seereise der Welt"
The magnificent nature of Strynefjellet has inspired many poets and artists throughout the ages.
The Old Strynefjell mountain road is over 100 years old and you will see many impressive instances of a road construction technique that is a testimony for those who built this road for over a century ago. The road is very steep and winds its way up through awe-inspiring high mountain scenery to about 1000 metres above see level.
Videseter- Stryn summer ski senter- Grotli
Start by taking the bus from Stryn town centre up to the crossroads between RV 15 and RV 258 (the Old Strynefjellsveg road). From here you bicycle up the road past Videseter and Bjørnsonsvingen corner up to Stryn Summer Ski Centre at Tystigen.
From the Summer Ski Centre you continue eastwards to Grotli. On the Oppland side there is a gravel road and you will observe that the terrain is gradually altered- from the dramatic Westland landscape to the gentler, more rolling hills in the area towards Grotli. The road has little climbing after Tystigen.
This trip is nice, but you must allow for a certain amount of climbing at the beginning of your bike ride towards the Ski Centre. The first part can also be quite busy with a lot of traffic on the main road during the season.
Allow 3-6 hours depending on how far you intend to bicycle.
