A Northern Lights adventure in Skibotn

This tour is conducted by Sami Camp and Skibotn Hotel. We offer you a Northern Lights adventure to Skibotn, including a hot meal in a Lavvo and storytelling about the Sami and the Northern Lights, joiking and drumming, followed by a Northern Lights chase.

Join us for a Northern Lights Chase Experience to Skibotn - a 90 minutes drive from Tromsø city centre. Skibotn is well known to be a perfect spot for watching the "Dansing Lady" in the night sky.

With our eco-friendly philosophy, delicious local food, knowledgeable guides and driver, we will take you on an Arctic journey that you will never forget. Your Northern Lights host will pick you up in front of the Radisson Blu Hotel main entrance. The drive will be in a minibus - with an English speaking guide. At Skibotn Hotel there is a restaurant with good toilet facilities.
This adventure also includes a visit to the Logje Sami family. Their Lavvo ( Sami tent) is just outside of the hotel. Learn how the Sami traditionally interpreted the constellations on the night sky and listen to stories about "Guovssahasa" (Northern Lights). Storytelling by the bonfire about the Sami people who have lived here in the Arctic for generations, will follow. The storytelling will take place in a real Sami tent called Lavvo.

Our guide will provide you with a brief, technical information, and some necessary knowledge about photographing the auroras.
Once your hosts have found a scenic spot, you will take off from the sami basecamp and hunt for the Northern Lights.

We search the polar sky for the Northern Lights and capture them in photos, and we offer photography tips.
If the dancing lady does not appear, or the weather conditions change, we may need to move on and continue the chase.

Included: pick-up and drop-off at Radisson Blu Hotel, transport in minibus with English speaking driver and guide, sami storytelling and joik by the campfire in our warm Lavvo, knowledge about the Aurora Borealis, hot beverages, a tasty Sami Bidos meal with local ingredients, coffee/arctic tea and snack.

Please bring: warm clothes, hat, gloves, warm boots, camera and tripod.

Last minute tips: Make sure you have enough free space on your cameras memory card(s),
and that the batteries are fully charged.
