Join us at Narvik harbor and experience the war history below the surface. With an underwater drone, you get to see live images from a historic shipwreck from the naval battles of 1940.
This boat trip takes you out into the waters of Narvik harbor, where some of the most dramatic naval battles of World War II took place. On board the vessel Ofotr, you get a close encounter with history, conveyed through stories, landscapes and live images from the seabed.
The tour starts with an introduction from the captain, who has a background as a former museum director. During the voyage, you will hear about Narvik's strategic importance in 1940, while the fjord, the city and the mountains form the framework for the experience.
At the wreck site, an underwater drone is sent down to one of the wrecks from the naval battles in Narvik. Video from the dive is shown live on the big screen on board, allowing guests to follow the exploration in real time. The area is also an official war grave, and the experience is conveyed with respect for history and the people who were affected.
After the dive, it is possible to ask questions to the captain. In the lounge, you will also hear stories from another chapter in Narvik's port history: the liquor smuggling related to the ore ships that previously called at the port.
If conditions allow, the underwater drone can be sent down again in search of traces of failed smuggling attempts.
