Join a daytime dog sledding tour from Tromsø to Skibotn Valley. Drive your own husky team, enjoy Lyngen Alps views and a warm reindeer soup lunch.
This tour is operated by Activenorth.
Travel from Tromsø to the husky camp in Skibotn Valley, approximately 90 minutes from the city. On arrival, you will receive warm winter equipment, meet your team of Alaskan huskies and help the guides prepare the dogs before a full safety briefing and driving instructions.
Each sled is pulled by a team of 4–6 huskies and shared by two guests. One person stands on the runners and drives while the other sits in the sled. Around halfway through the tour, you will have the opportunity to change places so both can experience driving the team.
The route covers approximately 10–15 km, depending on snow and weather conditions, and takes you through snow-covered pine forest and the winter landscape of Skibotn Valley, with views towards the surrounding mountains and the Lyngen Alps. A guide leads the group, with another guide following behind.
The dog sledding lasts approximately 60 minutes and includes a short stop along the way for photos and changing drivers.
After returning to camp, warm up with a bowl of traditional reindeer soup with fresh bread, coffee and tea. There is also time to spend with the huskies and take photos before the return journey to Tromsø.
In December and early January, some or all of the dog sledding may take place in partial darkness. A headlamp will be provided when required.
