Starlight Big Band performs music by Ingrid Steinkopf

In 2020, the band performed a commissioned piece by Steinkopf to great acclaim. Now, six years later, the band gets to perform new music composed by Steinkopf over the past year.

Since then, Ingrid has completed a master's degree in jazz composition at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, where the focus has been on large ensembles with a focus on big bands. In this concert we will present music from her master's project. The program consists exclusively of her own compositions, arranged for big bands.

The music has grown out of a trio format and developed into larger arrangements for big bands. Steinkopf's musical language moves between clear rhythmic grooves, polyrhythms and melodic lines. Her fascination with patterns and simple ideas is evident as a consistent feature in the compositions, where small motifs grow into larger structures.
