NINE BELOW ZERO "A blues-rock train with no brakes – and the crowd won't get off" This is one of the toughest blues-rock bands London has to offer. Established in 1977 and still fronted by Dennis Greaves & Mark Feltham. The band formed in South London in 1977, originally under the name Stan's Blues Band. With an explosive mix of high-energy blues, rock and pub rock, they quickly became a force to be reckoned with on the British live scene
The band changed their name to Nine Below Zero in 1979, inspired by Sonny Boy Williamson's classic blues song of the same name. Their reputation quickly grew thanks to their intense live shows.
Nine Below Zero broke through with the live album "Live at the Marquee" (1980) – an album that captured the band's incredible energy on stage and became a hit in the midst of the punk wave that was sweeping across England.
There's something special about bands that have been going for almost 50 years – they have nothing to prove, but everything to give. Nine Below Zero today turn any stage into a sweaty, pulsating blues club in early 1980s London.
Guitarist Dennis Greaves stands as always at the forefront, with his effortless cool and riffs that sit like a cast in the spine. And then we have Mark Feltham, whose harmonica can bring both fur and tears to the audience who really came to stomp the beat with a beer in hand.
Nine Below Zero is no longer a young and hungry band – but they still play as if it were their last night on earth. An evening filled with solid craftsmanship.
There's something huge about the band's presence – like a compressor that never lets up.
