The perfect introduction to sea kayaking!
Dreaming of exploring the coastline and experiencing the freedom of gliding across the water in a kayak? Our Introduction to Sea Kayaking course is a safe, fun, and inspiring first step into the world of paddling.
Through hands-on practice, you will become familiar with the kayak and essential equipment. By the end of the course, you will be able to use a kayak, paddle, spray skirt, and personal flotation device safely and confidently. The course is designed to build confidence, provide basic skills, and inspire you to continue your paddling journey.
What you will learn
- How to lift, carry, and launch a kayak
- Forward paddling with good direction control
- Stopping and braking techniques
- Turning the kayak in both directions
- Reverse paddling
- Safe wet exit procedures
- Landing and exiting the kayak safely
- Proper seating position and basic paddling technique
- Introduction to essential paddling safety practices
- Knowledge of local paddling conditions
Important Information
- Participants must be able to swim at least 50 metres.
- Courses require a minimum of three participants. If this minimum is not met, we will contact you to reschedule your booking or provide a full refund.
Certification
Upon completion, participants receive the Norwegian Paddling Association (NPF) Wet Card – Introduction Course certification.
To rent kayaking equipment from most providers in Norway, the NPF Basic Sea Kayaking Course is typically required. Combined with the Introduction Course, this represents a total of 16 hours of training. The Introduction Course is therefore an excellent first step toward further kayaking adventures.
