The Scottish choir and orchestra Dunedin Consort presents a unique reconstruction of the premiere of Mozart's famous Mass for the Dead.
Conductor and musicologist John Butt has for many years worked with historical musical material and returned to the sources to reconstruct the original premiere.
In working with Mozart's Requiem, Butt has studied how the variations in tempo originally followed the human pulse as the intensity increased, in line with Enlightenment ideals. With growing dynamism and intensity, it was natural that the tempo also increased. The soloists were also probably more included in the choruses than they are today. By using these elements, Butt aims to recreate how the audience experienced the premiere in 1791.
In addition to Requiem the ensemble will perform Mozart's Vesperae solennes de confessore, KV 339.
Soloists: Joanne Lunn - soprano, Kitty Whately - mezzo soprano, Thomas Walker - tenor, Benjamin Appl - baritonr
The concert concludes the 2017 edition of Oslo International Church Music Festival.
