We're proud to announce that next years team will consist of the same team that did "Per Gynt" at Gålå the past few years: director Erik Ulfsby, scenographer Arne Nøst, kostymedesigner Christina Lovery, lightdesigner Torkild Kjærven and choreographer Belinda Braza.
About the play
Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff in 1935 and 1936. The peace is constructed of songs found in a monastery in the 1200s and the lyrics are in Latin and medieval High German. There is no specific action, but 25 tableaux divided into 3 sections.
There are no systematic figures in the work, but rather prototypes: the adventurer, the girl and her friend, player, sweethearts.
Prologue is the famous "O Fortuna", that celebrates the Fates. All people must accept her whims. All human desires and feelings is located in Fortuna's hands.
First section is a tribute to spring, nature and joy of life.
The second section is a korhymne to earthly pleasures and takes place in the tavern. Here is among others grotesque solo singing from a roasted swan and abbot Cucanias tale.
Third section is about love and its diverse forms of expression.
Epilogue is the same as the prologue "O Fortuna"
Fortuna wheel in turn leads one up and the other down and whirls the bystanders into the stream. "In the shadow of death tumbles people rubndt in life."
Orff music is always moving and filled with an enormous vitality. It shall not be enjoyed but co-experienced.
