The festival takes place on Saturday 12 August, but there are several activities, so set aside the entire weekend! Festival history Neighbour Flekkefjord muncipipality had their salmon festival and Mandal had their shellfish festival (Skalldyrfestivalen). It was only natural that Lund municipality with all their good lakes for trout fishing would have their very own trout festival, Aurefestivalen. The idea came from two members of Moi Musikkorps, Gunvall Skaaland and Svein Voilaas, who brought the idea forward to the chairman at the time, Oddbjørn Gursli. Gursli liked the idea, and he got a unanimous yes from the entire music organisation that this was something to go for. Lund Jeger- og Fiskeforening and chairman Vegard Moi were contacted, and together the two organisations organised the first aurefestival of the year in June 1993 - quietly and modestly. But the event tempted them to do more. Next attempt, in 1994, was moved to August, just after the summer holidays in hope of stable weather. Over the years, the move (and weather) has proven to be successful, and since 1994, the festival has usually been held in the second weekend of August. NorDan has been an important supporter of the festival, and for three years the festival has celebrated the festival together with NorDan's anniversaries.  Famous and dear names have been visiting the festival over the years. The artists Ole Edvard Antonsen, Ingrid Bjørnov, Frode Aga, Harald Heide Steen Jr., Steinar Albrigtsen, Scandinavia and Per Inge Thorkildsen have all participated over the years. In 2012 the festival celebrated 20 years.
